Course Description

The institute engages K-12 educators in a four-day workshop that is topic focused. For 2020 the topic is “Displaced: Exploring the refugee crisis in the K-12 classroom”. The focus topic changes annually. Through interactive learning and discussion sessions, K-12 educators enhance their knowledge of and instruction methods on the topic. By combining scholarly presentations with access to in-field, humanitarian expertise, K-2 educators are provided valuable curriculum development and networking opportunities. Over the course of the Institute, faculty experts and visiting professionals will present on key elements of the focus topic and will guide discussion on the best practices for teaching global awareness, literacy, and competence to students of any age.
