Course Description

You must be an employee of SBUSD and part of the TIP program to enroll.

Participants develop effective strategies for mentoring new teachers to improve their teaching practice while supporting all types of learners in California schools. Mentors will learn how to appropriately support Teacher Induction Candidates to build on the knowledge and skills gained during the preliminary preparation program and, if supporting a 2nd year teacher, the first year of Induction. They will become familiar with opportunities for teachers to access professional learning resources to further develop an engaging and effective learning environment. Course participants will study a variety of research-based approaches to improving teaching and learning while supporting beginning teachers to advance their practice as defined by the California Standards for the Teaching Profession.

Learner Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, mentors will be able to:
  • Support new teachers to engage in focused cycles of inquiry to identify, practice, and refine effective teaching practices for all students.
  • Demonstrate a rich repertoire of mentoring skills.
  • Advance their professional practice as defined by CSTP #6 and prepare for future mentoring opportunities throughout their teaching career.
