In this course, students analyze frameworks for designing facilitated learning opportunities in informal learning environments. The course focuses on identifying learning goals, eliciting children’s prior knowledge, and designing exploration (science) and innovation (engineering) activities that bridge between the students’ initial ideas, and the learning goals.
This course provides opportunities for participants to design a facilitated learning opportunity at MOXI.
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Describe how museums fit into a larger ecosystem of learning to help children and adults develop new understandings about science content and to inspire curiosity and interest in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) fields
- Analyze teaching/learning frameworks that can be utilized for lesson design
- Design informal learning experiences to be facilitated at the MOXI
