Course Description

In this course, students learn about the relationship between informal learning and formal school-based learning. They learn about the grade level expectations and Next Generation Science Standards for children in K-12 classrooms and how exhibits and programs at MOXI can help meet these goals for diverse student populations.

Course Outline

This course provides opportunities for participants to experience real world opportunities to facilitate and observe field trip programs at MOXI.

Learner Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Describe how museums fit into a larger ecosystem of learning to help children and adults develop new understandings about science content and to inspire curiosity and interest in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) fields
  • Relate the informal learning experiences observed in ED X320A to formal learning experiences in the classroom
  • Design lesson activities to meet K-12 science standards that apply conceptual science content
