Teacher Induction Program Continuing Education Units

information:

This series of courses support professional development opportunities for first-year teacher mentors who are working with teacher induction candidates. Coaches select professional learning from a variety of course that aligns with their professional goals and areas of inquiry. The first course, Coaching Teachers through Induction provides an introduction to the program’s mission, goals, policies, and available resources. Coaches must complete Inquiry Collaboration and Developing as a Multiplier (Part I and II) with their candidates and then can choose among courses such as The Importance of Coaching and Strengthening Your Coaching Practice.

Learner Outcomes

Upon successful completion of these courses, candidates will be able to:

  • Learn techniques/strategies for partnering with their candidates to set and reach improvement goals.
  • Employ research-based techniques and an understanding of human dynamics for the purpose of establishing and maintaining strong relationships with their candidates.
  • Enhance their coaching practice by discovering and applying the Instructional Coaching Cycle (Knight) toaddress the challenging situations that beginning teachers face.
