Course Description

Practical application of the rules of evidence is discussed, with concentration on those areas specifically relevant to paralegal practice. The meaning of evidentiary rules is explored through hypothetical situations and applications. Topics include:

• Relevance
• Character evidence
• Witness competency
• Expert opinions
• Hearsay and hearsay exceptions
• Authentication

Students develop analytical skills by thinking through and solving problems and learn how to analyze evidentiary value, gather and preserve evidence, and prepare trial notebooks.
