Course Description
Finding the right employees to fit an organization's needs is a challenging task. This course examines concepts essential for effective staff recruitment, selection, and retention. Students also examine the diverse ways organizations view employees, and what organizational practices are effective to retain quality staff. Topics include the following:
- Recruitment techniques
- Job descriptions
- Assessment, including interviewing, testing, and background investigations
- Legal requirements
- Employee orientation
- Outplacement of staffing needs
- Staffing accountability
- Retention strategies
- Diversity in the workplace
Learner Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able:
- Evaluate and apply staffing models
- Conduct human resource planning
- Interpret and apply state and federal laws on employment
- Explore current and innovative issues in recruitment, selection, and retention
- Conduct job analysis and write job descriptions
- Direct interviewing and exiting procedures

Foundations of Human Resource Management or consent of instructor
