Course Description

As athletes, fans, and organizations increasingly engage with sports beyond national borders, the distinction between domestic and international sport systems continues to blur. This course examines the global landscape of sport governance, development, and competition, with emphasis on how sport systems are structured and managed outside the United States. Students explore how international federations, Olympic committees, and national governing bodies organize sport, allocate resources, and balance competitive, cultural, and economic priorities across different regions of the world.

Learner Outcomes

1. Compare governance structures and development models between U.S. sport systems and international sport systems.

2. Analyze the role of global sport institutions in shaping participation, equity, and competitive pathways.

3. Evaluate international case studies to identify cross-cultural management challenges and opportunities in sport.
