Course Description

This course is designed for pre- or in-service teachers, administrators, school counselors, and school psychologists who have responsibilities associated with identification of advanced learners for gifted and talented education programs and services. The course will offer exposure to the variety of instruments that can be used to place students into gifted programs or assist with the development of programming for academically advanced students. Theories of measurement and assessment, as they relate to gifted education and talent development, are the primary areas addressed in the course.

Learner Outcomes

Learner outcomes include: 

  1. Understand that there are multiple issues surrounding the broad topic of identification of students for gifted programs and the assessment of giftedness
  2. Know the major differences between tests and checklists and identify the instruments that are most relevant for an educational setting
  3. Understand the role of research in identifying individual learner’s needs as well as the needs of a group of gifted students.

Prerequisites
