Course Description

This course introduces students to financial data analytics and visualization techniques used to support decision-making in accounting and finance. Students will learn how to prepare, analyze, and present financial data using modern tools and techniques. Topics include data modeling, forecasting, performance metrics, and automation. Emphasis is placed on translating complex data into clear visual insights through dashboards and reports. By the end of the course, students will be able to communicate financial trends and support business strategy through data-driven analysis.

Learner Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Build and apply financial forecasting models using Excel
  • Design interactive dashboards and visuals with Power BI to communicate key insights
  • Query and transform financial data using SQL and Power Query
  • Track performance metrics and KPIs to support strategic decision-making
  • Use AI and automation tools to enhance financial analysis and reporting efficiency
  • Tell compelling financial stories using data narratives and visual reports

Prerequisites

ECON X400 – Principles of Financial Accounting, equivalent course or work experience as approved by Course Instructor and Program Manager.  

ECON X440 – Accounting Information Systems & Automation or equivalent course or work experience as approved by Course Instructor and Program Manager.
