Course Description

The course focuses on the history, diagnosis, and developmental needs of children with autism across the lifespan. Students are first introduced to the origin of autism. Next students are taught to look for red flags associated with autism. Finally, students will learn how to support children with autism across the lifespan – from early intervention to adolescent years, and beyond. The course will be taught from the NDBI perspective.

Learner Outcomes

There are four learner outcomes: 

  • Objective 1: Students will learn about the history of autism since it was first described in the literature.
  • Objective 2: Students will learn application of behavioral principles to understand autism and other severe disabilities.
  • Objective 3: Students will be able to identify the red flags of autism
  • Objective 4: Students will learn how to support children with autism across the lifespan using an NDBI approach.
