Course Description

This course builds upon the foundational concepts introduced in ECON X499.1, applying valuation theory to asset pricing and basic portfolio construction. Students will learn how to use financial statement information to support valuation decisions, apply the pricing models from X499.1 to actual stocks and bonds, and construct simple diversified portfolios.

Learner Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
•    Use financial statements to support stock and bond valuation decisions
•    Apply valuation models (such as DCF, DDM) to companies and securities
•    Understand different types of assets and their basic characteristics
•    Calculate portfolio risk and return using multiple assets
•    Construct simple diversified portfolios based on risk tolerance and objectives
•    Evaluate portfolio performance using basic metrics

Prerequisites

Must have completed ECON 1 - Principles of Microeconomics and ECON 2 - Principles of Macroeconomics (or equivalent courses) with a C grade or higher in each course. 

This Application for Candidacy must be completed and approved in order to enroll in this course and others within the Strategic Investments Program.
