1 Courses Required

To earn this Digital Credential, the student has learned about infrared detection methods and focal plane architectures, along with the most recent advances in infrared detectors and their system applications. This program includes hands-on laboratory/ demonstration, and the student interacted with faculty members while performing experiments using detector evaluation equipment.

Competencies:

  • Introduction to Infrared Technology
  • Emphasis on the physics of infrared detectors and thorough analysis of photon and thermal detectors.
  • Detectors and Packaging
  • Detector technology of the future, including superlattices and high temperature superconductors.
  • Focal Plane Electronics: Methods of readout for both scanning and staring focal plane arrays, with emphasis on charge coupled and charge injection techniques.
  • FPA Characterization/Testing and Special Topics
  • Radiometry, and optical sources used for characterizing infrared detectors and FPAs, key figures of merit and device specifications.
  • Infrared Systems: systems design and performance criteria related to modern applications.
