ED X319 - Ethics and Supervision
Course Description
This course primarily focuses on the ethical issues pertaining to applied behavior analysis and their application to clinical and applied practice. Students attend weekly online lectures, participate in group discussions (via Canvas), and take weekly quizzes. As part of this course, students are also expected to read, evaluate, and interpret current behavioral research articles that are posted on Canvas.
Learner Outcomes
This course covers the following topics: providing ethical and humane services to clients, following lawful and ethical guidelines of governing agencies, facilitating on-going supervision, practicing within one’s area of expertise, and conducting ethical studies following human subjects protocol.
- Collaborate with others who support and/or provide services to clients
- State the reasons for using behavior-analytic supervision and the potential risks of ineffective supervision (e.g., poor client outcomes, poor supervisee performance)
- Establish clear performance expectations for the supervisor and supervisee (i.e., RBT)
- Select supervision goals based on informal/formal assessment results of the RBT’s/supervisee’s skills
- Use performance monitoring, feedback, and reinforcement systems
- Use function-based strategies to improve personnel performance
- Evaluate the effects of supervision on an ongoing basis (e.g., on client outcomes, on supervisee repertoires)
