Course Description

Co-taught by the Program Coordinators under the overall coordination of one of them, this is the capstone class to the Environmental and Climate Advocacy, Leadership, and Activism Certificate. Each student will complete and present a project chosen by themselves and supervised by one of the faculty affiliated with the Program. Deep reflection on the Program’s three themes – advocacy, leadership, and activism in climate and environmental justice – will be undertaken, and issues of professional development will be explored.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will: 

  • have a firm grasp of the principles and practices of Environmental Advocacy, Sustainable Leadership, and Climate Justice Activism
  • have reflected on the professional uses of their Certificate
  • have carried out original research on a topic relevant to their own goals


In order to enroll in SOC X401 students must have completed SOC X400 with a C or higher.
