This course is designed to provide the candidate with the tools to effectively manage the school site and lead a school. There is an emphasis on safe school environment; discipline and school-wide management; development of a site-based budget; an overview of legal aspects of school operations’ that shape legislative provisions; and legal and contractual policies to ensure the school operates within the parameters of federal, state, local laws, policies, regulations, statutory and fiscal requirements. Additionally, the course provides the background and basis in developing the communication systems necessary to effective leadership. Topics include inter- and intra-personal communication skills, school and community relations, analysis of school and community power bases and group process skills.
Upon successful completion of this course, candidates will be able to:
- Identify and apply effective tools for managing and leading a school.
- Implement CA school laws, guidelines, and other state and local requirements and regulations.
- Develop strong communication skills for intra and interpersonal relations and as a principal responsible for the school site.
