Course Description

This course focuses on the content of a professional cycle of inquiry associated with the Santa Barbara County Education Office Teacher Induction Program. This serves as a formative assessment system, whereby candidates self-identify and measure areas of desired improvement and professional growth in accordance with the California Standards for the Teaching Profession (CSTP). Through ongoing research, data collection, analysis, and reflection, candidates are supported by and collaborate with mentor teachers who provide relevancy and resources within local contexts.

 

Learner Outcomes

As a result of this course, students:

  • Internalize an inquiry-based mindset for professional growth.
  • Learn how to use educational research as a tool for improving their instructional practice.
  • Develop a repertoire of instructional strategies that they can utilize for maximizing student learning.
  • Deepen an understanding of the vision of teaching in California, as well as professional roles and responsibilities according to the CSTP and the Continuum of Teaching Practice.

Teachers/Students who successfully complete the two-year Teacher Induction Program are eligible to apply for their California Clear Credential.

 

Prerequisites

Preliminary General Education and/or Education Specialist California Teaching Credential issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
