This course builds the critical legal literacy required to protect and manage cultural resources across the private and public sectors. The course will provide a practical history and synthesis of preservation law and policy by examining the federal and state regulatory frameworks that dictate resource eligibility and compliance. This course examines best practices for meaningful and respectful tribal consultation and community engagement, with a primary focus on Native American tribal stewardship and the ethical complexities of collaborating with developers, lead agencies, museums, National Parks, and descendant communities.
